INDIO (CBSLA) – A 35-year-old Coachella Valley basketball coach was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of raping a teenage girl who played for his team.
Incarnated at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio, Ryan Leron Towner is being held on suspicion of rape of a minor by force or for fear of bodily harm, as well as for oral copulation of a minor. Towner’s bail was set at $ 55,000.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has opened an investigation into the 35-year-old after learning of allegations the teenager was assaulted between August 2017 and July 2018.
Joshua Reinbolz, a Sheriff’s Department investigator, said Towner was the head coach of a travel basketball team the 16-year-old played on. No further details on the alleged crime were provided.
Prison records show Towner was near Jefferson Street and Fred Waring Drive in Indio on Thursday morning.

As of Thursday afternoon, court records show the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office has yet to indict Towner.
