Duke’s offer for Kyle Filipowski could be worrying

Syracuse basketball recently got into the recruiting fray for 2022 elite big man Kyle Filipowski, whose list of scholarship offers continues to grow.

Among its latest offers are member of the Miami Atlantic Coast Conference, according to Filipowski’s Twitter page, as well as the Big Ten Conference Indiana and Rutgers teams, according to media and recruiting services.

Four-star Filipowski, a 6-foot-10 power forward, is a junior from Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. It is suitable for an excellent group, the New York based NY Renaissance, on the AAU circuit. .

Other offerings include Ohio State, UCLA, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Iowa, Louisville, Purdue, Creighton, Marquette, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Providence and Stanford , through a review of various recruiting websites.

I recently felt that it wouldn’t surprise me at all if units of blue blood went into the mix for Filipowski. In fact, I’ve seen recent interviews with him that suggest offers may come in the near future from teams like Duke, Villanova and Virginia.

An offer from the Blue Devils for Syracuse basketball target Kyle Filipowski would worry me.

On Friday, I hadn’t seen an official offer from Duke to Filipowski, ranked No. 31 nationally in the 2022 cycle by ESPN. More than one analyst has said Filipowski could become a top 25 five-star prospect in his class.

Look, Filipowski already has a ton of awesome offers. Others will certainly come to him. And it is encouraging that Filipowski is making an official visit to the Hill in June.

However, if the Blue Devils offer Filipowski, that scares me. It is a separate possibility. For example, the headline of a recent article on the 247Sports website read, “Duke Maintains Contact With Top 60 Forwards Kyle Filipowski.”

Since Cuse offered Filipowski, I’ve read a bunch of comments in several Orange chat rooms discussing how a Blue Devils offer could pose challenges for Syracuse basketball trying to win for the 2022 stellar big man.

Understandably, the Orange has a lot more teams to compete with than Duke, but something about these Blue Devils worries me the most. Let’s see if Duke ends up offering Filipowski and if he chooses to visit the Blue Devils campus.

Right now, I’m probably overreacting. But Duke is Duke. I’m a huge fan of Filipowski’s game, and I think he could really flourish in a Syracuse basketball uniform. Maybe even help the ‘Cuse conquer those Blue Devils on the road.
