Farabee scores 20th overall as flyers close season with victory

It wasn’t a pretty year for the Flyers, but in the last game of the season their brightest point shone again.

At 21, Joel farabee Not only did the season end as the Flyers’ leading scorer, but also ended his season with a pair to reach the 20-goal mark in his second season in the NHL. His two goals helped pave the way for the Flyers’ 4-2 win over the Devils to close the 2020-21 season Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Devils came out shooting and took advantage of an early Flyers roll to take the lead. At 3:29 a.m. Nico Hischier corraled a loose washer and centered back through the crease to a Pavel Zacha for the tip-in to make it 1-0.

Less than two minutes later, another turnover put the Flyers in a bigger hole. Nicolas Aube-Kubel spat the puck, then blocked Will butcherattempted shooting. The puck bounced off Janne Kuokkanen at the bottom of the left circle and he shot home to make it 2-0 at 5:21.

In the middle of the period, the Flyers got on the board. A good exchange between Kevin hayes and Farabee resulted in a goal with Farabee making a move to beat Scott Wedgewood.

At the end of the period, the Flyers posted a power play, taking 1:57 on the power play in the second period. Through 20 minutes, the shots were 11-10 New Jersey.

The Flyers weren’t able to score on that or the other two power play they got in the split. However, they managed to fix the game.

Just past the regulation midpoint, the Flyers secured the tying goal of Sean Couturier, which was on the side of the net to receive a slippery pass from the Claude Giroux. It was Couturier’s 18th goal of the season.

In two periods, the Flyers had a 20-19 lead in shots.

The Flyers had to kill a pair of Devils power plays early in the third period. After they managed to kill both of them, they got their own power play and finally took advantage of it.

After a near-crash on a point shot, the Flyers went tic-tac-toe for the goal, with Giroux and Couturier bracing themselves James van riemsdyk at the edge of the net for his 17th goal of the season with 7:35 to go.

Less than four minutes later, the Flyers put the icing on the cake in this game. After a hit by Wade allison left a rebound, Farabee cleaned it up for his 20th goal of the season.

Brian Elliott finished the game with 23 saves in the win. Wedgewood made 27 saves in the loss.

In addition to Farabee’s two-goal game, Hayes, Giroux and Allison each had two assists. Couturier also finished with a goal and an assist.

The Flyers finished the 2020-21 season with a 25-23-8 record.
